World Cup 2010

I may not be into the whole EPL craze....i may not actually fully understand the game....but if there's one thing i never never miss, it's the World Cup!

I really don't know what it is about it, but i can't seem to be able to get enough of it. I mean i'll be the first to admit of course that my main purpose is to drool over the gorgeous men! In fact i'm starting a campaign to get them to start playing topless...i'm sure most of you would fully support me on this! Even you men...admit it!

Rustu Recber

The last WC, i was totally obsessed with the Turkish goalie...Rustu Recber...remember him??? He had the black war-paint thingy going on...very much like Oded Fehr in The Mummy (whom i swear i would molest on sight!).

Then of course there was Oliver Kahn who was simply fantastic and had such a presence....he reminded me of the Terminator.

Oh and Pierluigi Colina the referee...i dont know what intrigued me more...his alien-looks or his presence but either way i loved watching him!

Are you scared yet???

This year my new obsession is Lionel Messi. I mean when i first saw him i thought he looked like a rodent and even nicknamed him 'Mousy Messi' but a google search revealed that he suffers from a growth deficiency so i feel like i've found a kindred spirit :p

Plus he is just an excellent excellent player that i actually want to buy an original Messi jersey!! I don't think i've ever taken that much of an interest in a football player for his skills....instead of how great his arse looks while running after the ball that is :)

And then there's Tim Howard the US goalkeeper whom i adore cos i think he's just amazing as well and just looks like a really decent guy. A google search revealed that he suffers from Tourettes and was awarded Humanitarian of the Year for his numerous charity work....makes you just want to bonk him to within an inch of his life even more, doesn't it???!!!!

I must admit i was absolutely crushed that the US lost to Ghana...i thought in true Landon-Donovan-US-drama style they would win at the last minute....*sigh*........if anything i just wanted them to win for Howard's sake...the sight of him crying after US scored their winning goal against Slovenia (sorry Nino) was just too touching....wish i had been there to comfort him when they lost..... :p

Oh and i must say there is just something bout Steven Gerard. I'll admit i had never heard of him till the WC when my bro proudly pointed out that he plays for Liverpool and not only is the man gorgeous, you just can't stop watching him.

The best thing about the WC  though is watching all the matches with my bro and discussing the games with him. I mean i am absolutely retarded when it comes to football but the great thing about my bro is that he doesn't treat me like one....unlike some men who think that just because they have a penis, by default that makes them the authority on football. I mean he'll come back from work everyday and ask me bout the 230am match and how the game was played and how the goals were scored.....nevermind that i have asked him at least 20 times what offside means! It makes me feel like my opinion actually matters...heee

Anyway i'm rootin for Argentina of course...not only for Messi but because i was practically brought up on the legend of Diego Maradona (whom yes....looks like a character from Narnia with that suit and his antics on the sidelines!)

Happy WC!

The biggest girlie question is to ask why the goalkeeper has a different colour shirt to the other players. Have you asked it, Saby? You would have to be tickled sadistically if you asked that one.

Haha.. no need to say sorry. I respect everyone who roots for a team, we all have reasons that relate to the heart rather than the mind. But that's because football is pure emotion and passion :)

Well, I was happy USA lost against Ghana (hohoho, sorry Saby), really, I don't like the way they play and they were quite lucky, but we weren't :( Anyway, I'm also happy that we have an African team in the quarterfinals, makes the whole tournament interesting. I hope Ghana beats Uruguay :) But in the end, I'm same like you, rooting for Argentina. It's not only Messi, it's the whole team that fascinates me. They really play the best soccer and Maradona is for me the best player of all times, I always wanted to play like him as a small boy in the late 80s. He's my hero from the youth and I'd love to see him cry on July 11, but with tears of happiness, while kissing that trophy. That would be a priceless image. I guess it would be a goosebumps moment for most of the world, don't you think? :)

Well, if men can drool over catwalk models and Miss Universe/World/WhateverElse... I don't see why women can't drool over footballers, aye?

There's something about the world cup that brings out football fans out of us girls. Not just cos' of the hot guys but also its the spirit of the game. It's always nice to have a guy respect our opinions about it though.

P/S- Me thinks Pedro (18) is hot! :p

I am no expert on the matter of male pulchritudity but I can tell that David James, the England 'keeper, is a good looking lad.

Re Gerrard - he may push your buttons in certain respects but don't expect any sparlkling conversation or rapier wit.

Nobody in England wants the Argies to win.

GB : HAHAHAHAHAHA....oh you bad ape you!! I'm not that blonde to ask such a question!!

But i surely wouldn't mind being tickled sadistically by you Bananas :)

MKL : True US isn't a great team but there's just something about them...i cant explain it. And yes while i'm sad they lost, it is great to see Ghana qualify, although i'm sad no asian country did..for the quarters that is....was really rooting for japan...poor them

Argentina winning would deff be priceless....i mean maradona isn't much of a human being but he certianly is a fantastic footballer and it would be amazing to see him clinch that trophy :)

Terra : AGREED!!!! Although i'd like to literally drool all over them! Hee hee

Anu : Oooh Pedro huh....must check him out. I think the goalie is hot as well!! Love his hair :)

Unicorn : Exactly la!! I keep thinking i've seen him...or his lookalike at least...in some alien movie but i think he just looks like every other alien.

Either way he was just a fantastic reff and so few seem to be able to match him. There is one reff who is like T-2 but he doesn't have as 'interesting' a look like Colina :p

Visithra : Yes Beckham looks very dashing in his suit...it really is a pity that he isn't playing

And this WC really is amazing cos the underdogs seem to be winning. I never usually pick a side (unless Argentina is playing of course) and usually cheer regardless of who scores....lol....but when the underdog scores the joy certainly is more. It was certainly nice to see the 'little' teams winning and putting some of the big ones in their places

And YES YES we must watch a match together...just been so sick with this damn throat that i haven't really left the house except to go to the hospital la...where i attract even more germs :(

But we try for one of the games...maybe the semis k...hopefully i'm all well by then *fingers crossed*

Scurf : Well darling when it comes to any of the players, i ONLY want them to push my buttons....no conversation required....lol!!!

Sorry your teamn lost by the way....who are u rooting for now?

I was cheering on Slovenia but they got knocked out. I refuse to cheer on the USA because I know it annoys people and I enjoy that.

Football is not very popular here in the US but world cup fever has hit many places in my area.

By the way, you have been tagged for the Plastic Joy award if you want to participate.

See the rundown here:

http://www.un-loaded.com/2010/06/plastic-joy-award.html

sabrina said...

OMG i deff want to participate!!!!! But limiting it to just 5 is gonna be a challenge!

MKL said...

@Ricardo: You're a Slovenia fan? How come?

sabrina said...

I think he did it just to piss off his countrymen! LOL!!!

sabrina said...

Oh and are u back in Slovenia babes? Cos my stats says you came from there???

MKL said...

Saby, yes, I'm back. And I'll announce in one of my next posts. I thought I told you? I only told few... Anyway, I plan to go back to Asia soon, in few months :)

Ricardo said...

@MKL Sabby is correct. I cheered Slovenia on because I knew it would piss my fellow Americans off. I was set to buy a team Slovenia shirt if they rose up the ranks.

MKL said...

Oh, I see.. a pity then...

MKL : Oh i didn't know that babe....i hope you managed to celebrate Lily's birthday before you left :p

Ricardo : Hahahahahaha....oh i like you...you remind me soo much of meself :p

Hi, I was blog hopping and came across your blog. I must say it kept me reading with your witty comments *winks*. From your posts, I gathered that you are doing postgraduate studies in USM? Correct me if I am wrong. Actually to a certain extend if you are attached with USM Penang, I would need your help, we are currently going to conduct the Miss MalaysiaIndian Global (MMIG) 2010 Open auditions there on the 17th July 2010 in Vistana Penang. Before the auditions, we have planned to conduct a Personal Development Programme ‘Better Me’ on the same day from 9.00am – 1.00pm in Vistana Penang. With regard to that we are trying to target as many people as possible to this programme. If you do know people and would like to come yourself to check it out, it will be great. For more info, you can check out the facebook event page - http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages&ref=mb#!/event.php?eid=132829373416024&ref=ts
This programme has been carried out for the past 10yrs in KL and other states, but this is the first year that we are officially taking this programme out of KL, so we do need some advertisements as MMIG is a non-profit organization. If you need more info you can contact me at mel_1609@yahoo.com
