Romance?....I Think I'll Pass

While traipsing around Borobudur, we had a tour guide who turned out to be quite the accurate palm reader

And one of the 1st things he said was that i'm not a romantic person

No shit sherlock!

Apparently you can tell this about a person by looking at his/her thumb. If it bends/curves backwards..then that person is a romantic.
Mine was of course straight as hell

As he told me "You bukan romantis. You sangat direk. Yes or no (You are not a romantic. You're very dirct...yes or no!)"

And i have to totally agree with him of course. I just don't have the time for all that drama and would rather have it straight up....yes or no. No bloody signals. No bloody games. No stupid coy gazes and looks. I find all that childish and a right pain in my arse. Just bloody come right out and say what you're feeling! I mean doesn't it really save everyone a lot of trouble, time and heartache??!

I don't know if i was always like this....perhaps at some point when i was younger i did dig stuff like this, but all that most probably changed thanks to my 1st boyfriend

I mean the guy was a hopeless romantic. If i asked him to climb a tree just for the heck of it, he would do it to prove his love for me. Whenever we fought, i would immediately have a bouquet of roses sent to my house the very next day. Mixed tapes...song dedications...love letters....cards...etc etc. I was flooded with those. He even drew a portrait of me! Oh and he used to drive past my house late at night and blast my favourite song on the radio! (Are you creeped out yet?)

But i think what killed it for good for me was one Valentine's Day where he took me out for a romantic dinner, got me flowers and a gift of course and then showed me a piece of paper containing a song that he had written for me....illustrating how much he loved me and how much i meant to him! And if you thought that was nauseating enough.......the next minute he actually pulled his guitar out and started singing the song to me!!!!! I tell you i didn't know wether to laugh or to vomit. I think i just sat there with a totally bewildered look on my face.

Needless to say...since then i no longer observe Valentine's Day!

Now I know most of you may be thinking that i'm mad for not appreciating such a show of love and devotion....and i did....but it was just overkill you know! Like way way too much. It's like when you eat one too many Toblerone's and you feel all sick in the stomach? Kinda like that. Except that the Toblerone wasn't in the flavour you wanted it to begin with!

So yeah....i guess i wasn't 'built' to be quite the romantic and my ex gave me the final push into "Romance Strictly Forbidden Land"!

But knowing how the Big Guy works, i'll probably end up with another hopeless romantic!

And it must have been the corniest song as well, poor fellow! I would have advised him to serenade you with Lick My Love Pump by Spinal Tap. Who knows, it might have moved you enough to oblige him.

Oh damn. Does that mean you won't want to hear any of my poetry? ;)

GB : LOL!!! What an outrageous title!

But no....no amount or type of songs or naughty song titles would have helped his case!

Scurf : Hee hee...i would love to hear oyur poetry luv, but only if it's either funny or naughty....better still a combination of the two :)

I like romantic poetry like that of T. S. Eliot and Auden. But I don't consider myself a very romantic person. I would rather someone gave me a bunch of violets for no reason that red roses for valentine's day.

Glad you dumped that obsessive dork

Oh yes i have to gree with you...giving me roses or tulips for no reason is actually something i would appreciate as well. Or even sunflowers....such happy flowers :)

Oh and thank god the dork was stupid enough to cheat on me and get caught so that very conveniently ended the whole thing :)

You know, your comment to nursemyra actually points out something... probably his extremely caring and romantic gestures were part of his guilt complex because deep down inside he always knew he was likely to stray...

And maybe dudes who give you silly nicknames and illegally pluck flowers from public parks and try to call the guards to tell them that you picked the flower are a better bet (my sister's bf does things like these)

Kav : Cho chweet!

Oh and yes what am i saying...i love daisies not sunflowers! They is such friendly flowers! And lilies not tulips....i must be drunk on my milo ice!

Terra : Well actually i think he cheated cos i was just totally unappreciative of all his efforts...and eventually stopped spending that much time with him cos it was getting nauseating. So in a way, i don't really blame the guy. Was a bastard thing to do...but i understood :p

I know what u mean about overkill. I met his guy once for one date and he wanted to buy me perfume and other gifts the next day.And a week later he said he wanted to marry me!I thought he was crazy! Needless to say, I declined.

sabrina said...

Kav : Of course la! If you're just figuring that out, you've really been living under your rock for way too long!

sabrina said...

Anu : OMG really??? God! I would have barfed all over him first!

Although to be fair, if i were a guy and i just met you even i would propose to you the very next day! You're just that sweet! :p
