Is it just me or does it seem like we're getting more and more conservative by the generations?
I mean in the 70s, people were having sex with multiple partners; having sex with partners of both sexes; doing coke freely; dressing however they wanted to without people batting so much as an eyelid; having babies out of wedlock etc etc

But nowadays there are stupid laws being passed about same-sex marriages; people are being ostracized because of their sexual orientation and women are being told to cover up. In fact wasn't there some incident recently on a plane where a woman wasn't allowed on board cos either her clothes were too revealing or her clothes didn't cover her extensive tattoo work?...i forget....but eithet way it's just plain stupid!
Take Sex and The City for example
While Samantha's sex life is hailed as all that, her friends still raise the occasional eyebrow and pass snide remarks about her lifestyle. Remember that time when Carrie walked in on her 'blowing' the UPS guy? And it seemed as if the undelying subtext of the show was, being promiscous won't bring you happiness!
And yes while we may have more homosexual characters in tv series or movies, they're always portrayed or treated like the exception rather than the norm isn't it?
And even though a lot of people think the Jolie-Pitts have adorable kids and are the perfect couple, most people actually want them to get married...cos somehow it makes them uncomfortable that they're churning out kids without a wedding ring on.
So what exactly happened?
Why have we become suddenly so conservative?
Is it because we think the world is gonna end soon so we'd better toe the line and not piss the big guy off? Or do these mass organized religions have such an impact now that we're jumping in on the bandwagon and adopting the holier-than-thou stance?
I mean mind you, i'm not advocating doing drugs freely or having tons of babies without being stable enough to take care of them...or rather, without having the intention of taking care of them
I'm just saying that with how far or how much we've supposedly evolved, shouldn't things like anal sex and homosexuality be now the norm instead of the exception? Shouldn't we be able to walk around naked (that is after all the way God created us) especially in this blasted hot season without being at risk of getting a fine or being thrown in jail for indecent exposure? Shouldn't a single 35-year old be able to go to functions without being treated like a social reject cos she's unmarried and childless?
I mean seriously la...what has happened to people? Why are we moving backwards??

I think a law should be passed specifically for you to walk around butt naked, Saby. But I don't think you should have butt sex, it might play havoc with your bowels.

it's not so much as regressing as realizing what a disaster the 60's and 70's were... (not the drug bit though, i completely support the use of mind altering substances!!), but the having random sex and shit..
it's just not safe or healthy anymore... what with AIDS and all the other bloody std's and shit going around...
plus look at the growth in population la... how the heck is mother earth supposed to support all of us?
i personally feel that all these weather changes and natural disasters is earths way of trimming down the numbers..

Naked is a very 'visual' kind of word. The moment you see it, the mind starts working overtime. ;)
I think the recent history has proved that there's a constant change. The early 60s were very conservative, from 68 on and in the seventies, the times were very liberal. 80s were again a bit conservative, 90s very liberal again. And after 2000 I have the feeling we're again more conservative as societies, some more some less, of course. I'm speaking about Europe in my case.
It's commonly believed that the kids never wanna be like their parents. So if the parents are extremely conservative, the kids wanna be liberal and vice versa. But I still think most people are somewhere in the middle and there was progress in the last 50 years.

i keep seeing so many mommies boys running their marriages coz they dont have a backbone to tell their family to not get involved in their affairs - or just ignoring the fact that the parents just asked the gals family to pay for the whole wedding n sorts - i mean 30 years ago my dad insisted on paying for most of their wedding expense since he was a man!
those kind of men no longer existla - or are just too rare

I would have thought things have gone the other way and are a lot more freer than ever the 70's. At least over in the West. Where a persons freedom isn't so socially controlled.
I think it is that we have become so immune to everything that not too much shocks us now a days.
It is a lax of social conscious that is missing over here. The youth tend to be rather self centered
and only care about themselves and not what they are doing to others.
there is no proper justice system in place to hold anyone accountable. the damn Lawyers have messed things up for all of us by finding loopholes in everything. The only ones who get curtailed are the victims and the criminals go off scot free in most cases with a slap on the wrist.
I think some societies have become more prurient and judgemental and the religiously deluded seem to think they occupy some sort of moral high ground but on the whole we live in a more tolerant world.
There's a lot of unneccesary fuss about same-sex marriages - we call them civil partnerships which is a far more appropriate albeit clinical name. Only the tabloid press call them same-sex marriages which allows them to then suggest there's something immoral about them. I think it's only fair that if two people live together for a sustained period of time then they should be allowed to be treated in the same way as a married couple for tax purposes. This potentially is worth a lot of money which the taxman won't get at and I think that's probably a good thing.
Walking around butt nekkid is fine as long as I get to decide who can do it. I'd let you Saby.
